Well, Real Madrid just put on quite the show at the Santiago Bernabeu, thrashing Celta Vigo 4-0 and pushing themselves a cool seven points clear at the top. After a bit of a dry spell, this win was a much-needed morale booster, especially with Barcelona and Girona breathing down their necks this weekend.
Vinicius Junior was the man of the hour, kicking off the goal fest 21 minutes in. Despite a bit of a scuffle with Celta’s Oscar Mingueza, which earned him a yellow card, Vinicius didn’t let that ruffle his feathers. He was right back at it, turning a rebound into the first goal of the game after Rudiger’s header from Modric’s corner got the ball rolling.
Speaking of Modric, the man’s corner kicks are like fine wine – they just get better with time. He whipped another beauty that led to Madrid’s second goal, courtesy of an own goal by Guaita, who unfortunately deflected Rudiger’s header into his own net.
And the hits just kept on coming. Vinicius, ever the troublemaker for defenders, whipped in a cross that Carlos Dominguez accidentally sent past his own goalkeeper. To cap it off, young Arda Güler made it four, sealing the deal with a smooth finish late in the game.
Oh, and that banner waving in the south goal end? “Hey Jude, Madrid is with you.” Quite the shoutout during a match that was more a festival of goals than a gritty battle.
