What is lymphoma
Lymphoma is a type of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system, part of the body immune system. It affects a specific type of white blood cell called lymphocytes. There are two main types of lymphoma. Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma each with symptoms and treatments.
Symptoms of lymphoma often mimic common illness, such as fatigue, fever, weight loss, night sweats and swollen lymph nodes, making early diagnosis a challenge. However, with advancements in medical technology and treatments, many patients now have better chances of remission and long-term survival.
- Hodgkin lymphoma: This cancer starts in the lymph system (part of the immune system) and causes affected lymph nodes to get larger. This cancer may spread to the spleen, liver, bone marrow or lungs.
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma: This is the group name for all types of lymphomas except Hodgkin lymphoma.
